HHS Public Health – Northwest, ND – Health Inspector 

Sign-on Bonus Up to $4000! 

Starting Salary: $4163 - $5,300/month (5% increase available after successfully completing six months of employment.)

Shift: Option to work four (4) 10-hour days; five (5) eight 8-hour days

Qualified candidates will be considered upon receipt of application. The position may be filled prior to the listed closing date after successful completion of the application and interview process. 

Conduct health and sanitation inspections to ensure establishments are following applicable state laws, rules, industry principles and policies for an assigned territory (primarily Northwest North Dakota) using an assigned state fleet vehicle.

As our Health Inspector you will travel and conduct health and sanitation inspections of licensed food and/or lodging establishments, mobile home parks, recreational vehicle parks, campgrounds, body art and tanning facilities within an assigned territory. You will use your knowledge of state laws, rules, industry principles and policies to make compliance decisions based on observations, interviews, and record reviews. You will prepare complaint investigations, foodborne illness and injury investigations and assist with strategic planning as well as emergency planning and response. In addition, you will prepare educational materials and information sharing skills to improve the transparency of government, engage and extend resources to the regulated community and inform consumers.

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health or in a physical, chemical or biological science.
  • Be currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an Environmental Health Practitioner and possession of or the ability to obtain, the professional designation of a Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sanitarian (REHS/RS) with the National Environmental Health Association, within five (5) years of hire.

A valid driver’s license is required.

Location: 

ND HHS utilizes a blended workplace model. This position will work from home and is responsible for an assigned territory primarily in Northwest North Dakota. Travel within the state of North Dakota is required. At least 75% of this position’s duties will require daily travel; mostly day trips and some overnight stays as needed. A state fleet car, meal allowance and lodging expenses are provided for daily travel and when overnight travel is necessary.
